Empowering Coaches with a custom tracking App
Empire Fighting Chance is a remarkable organization that supports disadvantaged young people through non-contact boxing and personal mentorship. As their programs grew, they needed a streamlined way to track the progress of participants. Their goal was to create a tool that would allow coaches to quickly and easily record data in real-time while providing staff with insights into each young person’s journey.
Empire needed a digital solution that was both efficient for coaches and insightful for staff. My role was to lead the UX design, ensuring the app was intuitive and easy to use in a fast-paced gym environment. I also designed the UI, creating a clean and accessible interface, and took on project management responsibilities to co-ordinate the build. This project was a collaboration with Blu Inc and IOMI, who handled the development.
I worked very closely with Empire to understand the needs of their coaches and staff, ensuring the app fit seamlessly into their daily workflow. A progressive web app (PWA) was devised to allow coaches to log data effortlessly, even in busy gym settings. This app links to an admin system, enabling staff to track progress over time, identify trends and measure impact. I designed the user experience to be simple, really quick to use and intuitive. Making it easy to input and access data without disrupting sessions. By managing the project, I ensured smooth collaboration between all teams and kept the development aligned with Empire’s vision.
The app has transformed how Empire Fighting Chance tracks and supports young people in their program. Coaches can now log data quickly and without hassle, while staff gain valuable insights into each participant’s progress. The system provides a clearer picture of the impact Empire is making, helping them refine their approach and support young people more effectively. Due to the sensitive nature of the data, UI examples cannot be shared publicly, however the success of the app is evident in its everyday use by the organisation.
